Eye Care
Our eyes are our most precious sense yet most of us take it for granted, paying attention only when a problem arises.
Some ocular conditions are without symptoms at the early stage and visual loss which is irreversible is noticed at
advanced stages of the disease.
One of such ocular conditions is glaucoma, which is also known as the ‘silent thief of vision’. Risk factors include
higher eye pressure (measured by tonometry), black race (in whom the disease runs a far more aggressive course),
age (risk increases with age), a positive family history of the disease, diabetes, myopia and vascular diseases like
hypertension. The prevalence of blindness from glaucoma was 16.7% in 2007. Recently it appears that glaucoma is
on the increase in Nigeria.
Everyone is advised to visit the eye clinic regularly for routine eye checkup.
Dental Care
Dental Care is a practice aimed to maintain teeth and associated supporting structures in the mouth.
The best practice is preventive care which a client can be empowered to know, motivated to do and helped to achieve.
The following preventive care such as oral hygiene instructions, dietary counseling, routine scaling/polishing, fluoride
therapy, fissure sealant to mention a few serves to maintain healthy gums, prevents hole in the teeth, promotes fresh
breath and curbs the pathogenic properties of the various strains of bacteria in the mouth that might want to cause
(in the presence of other factors) inflammation of the gums.
To help keep your smiles and maintain healthy dentitions, please visit the dental clinic regularly.
Mammography
Mammography is a procedure for
screening for breast cancer (the commonest
cancer in women). It uses a special type of
x-ray to detect very small masses that may not
be felt by breast examination. Regular
mammography can detect early stages of breast
cancer. This reduces the cost as well as
improves the outcome of treatment. Get a
mammogram now and save your life.
Pap Smear
Pap smear is an office procedure
for screening for cervical cancer (the commonest
female genital tract cancer). It allows early
detection and treatment of pre-cancerous changes
in cervical epithelial cells. This is cheaper
and easier than treating cervical cancer.
Regular screening has been shown to
significantly reduce the deaths from cervical
cancer. Abnormal Pap smear is an indication for
referral to a gynaecologist. Remember that
prevention is better than cure. See your
healthcare provider today and get a smear.
